Head football coach from 1972 until 2005. The second winningest football coach in Ohio High School football history (341 career wins). Two state championship teams (1979, 1989) and six runner-up teams. Twenty-four playoff appearances. Twenty-two conference championships. Twenty-three undefeated seasons. Twenty-eight Coach of the Year awards. A state record string of 58 straight unbeaten games. A member of the Ohio High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. A street in Ironton is named after him. What more can you say. Well, for one, we could talk about the numerous athletes that went on to play college and professional football; but it will suffice to say that Coach Lutz is a man of unparalleled integrity and unflinching committment.
Mike Burcham
Mike Burcham was athletic director from 1966 until 2001 and head baseball coach from 1968 until 1986. Burcham coached the baseball team to a state championship in 1972. Burcham is a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Directors Hall of Fame. Under the tutelage of Mike Burcham, Ironton High School won 6 state championship teams and had 10 state runner-up teams. Numerous athletes went on to college athletics as well as professional athletics. A tremendous organizer with a strong sense of loyalty, Burcham made Ironton High School athletics the greatest mid-sized program in the state of Ohio.
